EXCLUSIVE: Kwara YPP Adopts Wahab Issa As House of Reps Candidate

The leadership of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Kwara State has adopted the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for Ilorin East and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulwahab Oladimeji Issa for the February 25th National Assembly elections. 

This resolution was unanimously reached during a meeting organised by the State Chairman of the party Chief Dele Ogunbajo with the Central Executive Council and other notable members of the party in Ilorin East and South Local Governments which are one of the strongholds of the party in the state. 

A party stalwart of the YPP who spoke under the condition of anonymity exclusively revealed the stance of the party after a meeting with the leadership of the PDP during a closed meeting in Basin, Ilorin, recently. 

According to the source, "there is no serious-minded person in Ilorin East and South today who will deny the fact that Hon. Wahab Issa is the most viable candidate in the forthcoming election, and therefore, no serious party will ever turn down an opportunity to have him fly its ticket or go to sleep while fielding a candidate against him."

"While party members in their large numbers across the wards in the two local governments inundated me with calls daily as a key stakeholder of the party, asking for confirmation and expressing excitement over the prospect of Hon. Wahab Issa being their candidate for the House of Reps, there was the consensus by many of us in the party that so far YPP has no candidate for the seat, Wahab Issa should be adopted. 

"The simple reason for this assertion is that, apart from Wahab Issa’s well-oiled independent structures, abundant goodwill and enduring legacies of providing job opportunities, his sustainable development plans stand him out amongst other contestants as a creative thinker who can think out effective solutions for addressing the problems bedevilling the entire constituency and thus earn him the winning votes even from his opponents’ camps.

"I would not be surprised if the largest body of the SDP and even members of the APC decide in no distant time to adopt Wahab Issa, despite their parties fielding a candidate for the seat. This is because the PDP candidate has easily won the hearts of many people with his simplicity, humility, goodwill and burning passion for community development. 

"Our party has sent signals and directives to our ward and zonal chairmen, as well as our canvassers and grassroots mobilisers who are working day and night to make the Wahab Issa Green Chamber Agenda one that will fill the air across households, streets and markets to further corroborate the unconditional love and support people have already given him since the day he won the ticket to fly the party's flag," he added. 

The source has testified that Hon. Wahab Issa has continued to make concerted efforts to lure eligible voters and critical stakeholders of the opposition parties into his folds as the majority of them have shown readiness to work for his emergence in the forthcoming elections.
